The SM5's built-in display or the Song Meter Configurator mobile app displays one of the following messages:
- Warning: External mic 1 wrong microphone type!
- Warning: External mic 2 wrong microphone type!
Cause: Ultrasonic Microphone Connected
The SM5 will display this message if it detects that an ultrasonic microphone is connected to one of the external microphone ports. Ultrasonic microphones include the SMM-U1 and SMM-U2 from Wildlife Acoustics. These microphones are not recommended for use with the SM5 in the vast majority of circumstances.
Cause: Faulty Microphone Misidentified
In rare cases, certain types of damage to a microphone may cause the SM5 to misidentify it. For example, a damaged SMM-U1 could be misidentified as an SMM-A1, SMM-A2, or even as a hydrophone, such as the discontinued SMM-H1.
