The SM5/SM5BAT Desktop Configurator provides an additional means of programming your recorder, estimating maximum deployment length, and reproducing settings from a previous deployment.

The SM5/SM5BAT Desktop Configurator is available for free from wildlifeacoustics.com and can be installed on Windows, MacOS, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Like the Song Meter Configurator mobile app, it allows you to create a configuration file containing a particular combination of settings and schedule parameters which you can then apply to any number of SM5 recorders. Also like the mobile app, it allows you to estimate how long a deployment might last (assuming room-temperature conditions) based on a given combination of battery type, SD card size, settings, and schedule.

Unlike the mobile app, the desktop configurator cannot pair with the SM5 via Bluetooth. To apply a configuration from the desktop software to the recorder, you must use an SD card.

Unique to the desktop configurator is the ability to import recording from an SM5 and visualize the settings and schedule that were used to produce that recording. This allows you to repeat the settings and schedule from an earlier project even if you have lost the original configuration file.

The interface of the desktop configurator is split into an upper panel for editing settings and a lower panel that visualizes the programmed schedule on an hourly calendar.
