Song Meter SM5 User Guide

Core Product
SM5
Accessory

The Instant Record feature provides a simple way to record field notes and check the headphone output without altering your recording schedule.

About this task

Instant record starts a recording period immediately, regardless of the SM5's programmed schedule. This mode also allows you to adjust the volume of the SM5's headphone output.

Procedure

  1. If you plan on using external microphones during your deployment, connect them to the SM5.
  2. Use the Channel menu to map each channel you want to use to a microphone.
  3. Insert an SD card into either SD card slot.
  4. Start an instant recording using either the built-in interface or the mobile app.
    • Using the screen and buttons, select Utilities > Instant record.
    • Pair the Song Meter Configurator app with the SM5 and select Configure > Utilities > Instant Record.
The SM5 will begin recording using all active channels.
  5. Optional: Use headphones to check that each microphone is working and mapped to the correct channel.
    1. To avoid loud pops, connect headphones with a 3.5 mm TRS connector to the SM5's headphone jack before you bring them to your ears.

The headphone jack is located below the battery tray, at the bottom edge of the SM5's enclosure. It is only accessible when the enclosure is open.
    2. Use the Up and Down buttons on the SM5 to adjust the headphone volume.
    3. Lightly tap or rub the microphones you mapped to each channel.
Acoustic channel 1 should be heard through the left ear. Acoustic channel 2 should be heard through the right ear.
  6. Press the Back button on the SM5 or select Stop in the app to end the recording.
