Synchronize Date, Time, and Location to GPS/GLONASS Using the Built-In Interface - SM5

Song Meter SM5 User Guide

Core Product
SM5
Accessory

Set the SM5's clock using the built-in satellite receiver.

Procedure

  1. Turn on the SM5 and press Enter to exit the status screen.
  2. Go to Settings > Time & location and update the Time zone to your current local time zone.
GPS/GLONASS satellites do not provide time zone information to the SM5. If your region practices daylight saving time or summer time, your time zone changes seasonally.
  3. Under Time & location, set GPS sync to any value other than Off.
For most stationary deployments, Once is sufficient.
  4. Press Back several times to return to the main menu, then press Back again to view the main status screen.
    Figure 1. Example Status Screen
    19:43:42 Mar-17-26
    Rec name: S5U00001
    Batt: 4.0V Temp: 23.6C
    SD1:1/64
    SD2:EMPTY
    GPS:NoFix 3/6 25dB
  5. Bring the SM5 to an outdoor area with clear view of the sky.

When the SM5 is attempting to acquire a satellite fix, the status screen will read GPS:NoFix followed by the number of satellites it is attempting to track, the total number of satellites in view, and a measure of signal quality from the satellites it is attempting to track.

While the SM5 is actively synchronizing its clock and location to GPS/GLONASS, the status screen will read GPS:Active Fix & sync.

After the SM5 has completed synchronizing with the Once setting, the status screen will read GPS:Fixed once. Using the Daily setting, the status screen will alternate between showing the time since the previous fix and the time until the next fix attempt.
