The SM5 has a variety of built-in mounting points to suit many deployment scenarios.
Upper Mounting Loops
Two loops on the upper face of the SM5 enclosure can accept a cable lock, rope, or bungie cord hooks. The inner diameter of these loops is 0.42 in. (11.0 mm). A cable lock serves as both a mounting accessory and a simple theft deterrent.
Screw Mounting Point
The loop at the center of the upper-rear edge of the enclosure is designed to accept a countersunk screw with a maximum thread diameter of 3/16 in. (5 mm). You can use this loop to fasten the SM5 to a wooden post, for example.
Threaded Mounting Insert
The brass, threaded insert on the rear face of the enclosure is designed to fit camera tripods or mounting accessories for trail and game cameras with 1/4สบ-20 threads. The maximum insertion depth is 0.300 in. (7.62 mm).
We strongly recommend using brass bolts with this mounting point. Other metals may react with the brass insert and produce galvanic corrosion, seizing the mounting bolt inside the threaded insert.
Test any mounting accessories to ensure they can support the weight of the SM5 and its batteries. Ensure that mounting points, like the quick-release plates found on many tripods, do not interfere with the screw mounting point, which protrudes slightly.
Strap Loops
Two narrow, rectangular loops on the rear-left and rear-right edges of the enclosure are designed to accept nylon webbing straps up to 1 inch (2.54 cm) wide, such as those commonly used to mount trail cameras. This style of strap often has a simple, toothed buckle that holds the webbing in place.
Ratchet straps are similar in appearance but are not recommended. Ratchet straps are capable of applying enough force to bend or break the SM5's enclosure.
