All recordings and other files the SM5 produces can be transferred from the SD cards using a computer.
Procedure
-
Turn the SM5's power switch Off.
The SM5 will safely end its recording, if one is in progress, and power off.
- When the SM5's screen has turned off, eject its SD cards.
- Connect an SD card to a computer's built-in SD card slot or USB-connected SD card reader.
- Open the SD card's contents in your computer's file browser.
-
Copy the entire contents of the SD card to a different file storage location,
such as the computer's internal storage drive, a USB-connected drive, or a
network-attached storage device.
Tip: Include any summary text files (RecorderName_Summary_CardNumber.txt) and diagnostics files (RecorderName_YYYYMMDD_hhmmss.sm5diags) with your recordings in long-term storage. These files use very little storage space but contain useful contextual information about your deployment. They are particularly important for diagnosing problems that occur during a deployment.
-
If you used two SD cards, copy the contents of the second SD card to the same
location as the first.
The files on SD card 1 may not necessarily all predate the files on SD card 2. We recommend treating the combined contents of both cards as a single dataset.
- Optional: Make a second copy of your data to a different storage location to prevent data loss in case the primary storage drive is lost or damaged.
- Optional: After you have confirmed the data is copied to at least one long-term storage location, reformat the card to erase its contents, or mark it as being ready to use for the next deployment.
