The Recorder Name setting assigns a custom name to the SM5 recorder. This name is used as a file name prefix to identify files saved by an individual recorder.
By default, the Recorder name is set to each unit's serial number. Allowed characters are capital, unaccented, Roman letters; numerals; and hyphen ('-'). The maximum length of a Recorder name is 12 characters.
The Recorder name appears in the following locations:
- On the recorder's built-in status screen
- Prepended to the file names of audio recordings, summary files, and diagnostics files
- In the GUANO metadata of recording files
GUANO metadata also records the recorder's serial number, even if the Recorder name has been changed from its default value.
