When planning a deployment, make sure the SM5 is
updated, correctly programmed, and has necessary accessories ready to go.
About this task
Some deployments may call for instructions that are more specific than these steps or
that differ from these steps. You are welcome to use this material as a starting
point for your own written protocol.
Procedure

Check if the SM5's clock has reset to January
2000, and replace the clock
battery if it has.

Charge all rechargeable batteries.

Format all SD
cards.

Install the latest version of the Song Meter Configurator from the Apple App Store®
or Google Play™.

Update the SM5's firmware if a new version is
available.

Use the mobile app or desktop configurator to program your settings and
estimate your battery and SD card needs.

Check that the time zone is set correctly,
accounting for daylight saving time or summer time.

Apply your settings to the recorder using an SD card or by pairing with the
mobile app.

Test the function of all built-in and external microphones.

Write down which external microphones you will use and which ports they should
connect to.
These should match the Channel settings you
programmed.

Using the built-in screen or the mobile app, check that all settings were
correctly applied.

Install your batteries and SD cards, then turn off the SM5 during transit.

Pack all necessary equipment.
