Song Meter SM5 User Guide

Core Product
SM5
Accessory

After you retrieve the SM5 from the field, you should inspect and clean it, copy your data from the SD cards, and prepare it for storage.

Procedure

  1. Wipe away any debris from the outside of the SM5.
  2. Open the SM5 and note whether it is still powered on and whether it displays any error messages on its status screen.
  3. Turn the SM5 off before removing SD cards.
  4. Use a computer to copy the full contents of every SD card to one or more long-term storage locations.
  5. Inspect the recorder inside and out, plus all microphones and cables, for signs of damage.
  6. Clean the outside of the recorder, avoiding pressing on or scraping the face of any microphone.
Soapy water and isopropyl alcohol are both suitable.
  7. Remove the batteries from the main compartment before storing the SM5.
Alkaline batteries can leak corrosive chemicals if left installed in a device for long periods of time.
Rechargeable batteries should be stored in a non-conductive container. The batteries should not be allowed to move around and contact each others' metal components.
