New SM5 Does Not Power On - SM5

In rare cases, a new SM5 may not wake up when you insert batteries and switch on the power for the first time. This can be easily and permanently resolved.

Cause

Wildlife Acoustics engineers are currently investigating the root cause of this symptom, but we suspect it may be related to an incorrect sequence of events when the SM5 is first being programmed during manufacturing. This may produce a schedule error that does not occur during normal use.

Solution

Procedure

  1. Set the SM5's power switch to Off.
  2. Remove all batteries and any external power source.
  3. Set the power switch to On.
  4. Reinsert the batteries, or reconnect an external power source.
    The SM5's display should wake up and display the status screen.
  5. Press Enter , then select Utilities > Restore defaults.
    The SM5 will be reset to default settings and ready to use. This symptom should not reappear.
