If you do not need the full runtime of eleven 18650 batteries, you can install
between one and six. The included battery bracket is required to hold the batteries in
place.
About this task
If you do not fill all eleven slots for 18650 batteries, you must use the included
battery bracket to hold between one and six 18650 batteries in place.
Procedure
-
Disconnect any external power source from the SM5.
You cannot use both internal batteries and external power
simultaneously.
-
Ensure that your batteries meet the following criteria:
- They are protected, button-top cells.
- Their size specification is "18650."
- They are all fully charged.
-
Insert up to six batteries into the battery tray.
Note the directional battery icons embossed in the rear face of the battery
tray. All batteries should be oriented positive-right.

If using fewer than six batteries, fill slots starting from the bottom of the
tray for better stability.
-
Remove the battery bracket from its compartment along the right side of the
battery tray.
-
Insert the hooks on both ends of the battery bracket into the corresponding
slots at the upper and lower edges of the battery tray.
The rounded contours of the battery bracket should sit flush against the
installed batteries.

- Required:
Set the SM5's voltage cutoff behavior.
- Using the built-in display, go to .
- Using the Configurator app, pair with the recorder and go to .
Choosing the correct Battery type allows the SM5 to maximize its runtime, and it allows the
Song Meter Configurator mobile app to accurately estimate battery life
percentage.
If the Battery type
setting is incorrect, the SM5 may shut itself
down prematurely, and battery percentage readings will not be correct.
