The SM5 defines dawn and dusk as the moment when the upper edge of the sun appears level with the horizon at sea level.

Alternative definitions of sunrise and sunset may include the periods of civil twilight, nautical twilight, or astronomical twilight, which begin or end when the sun is 6, 12, or 18 degrees below the horizon, respectively. The SM5 does not support these alternative definitions of dawn and dusk.
