Generate Diagnostics Using the Built-In Interface - SM5

Song Meter SM5 User Guide

Core Product
SM5
Accessory

You can export a diagnostics file from the SM5 to an SD card using the built-in buttons and screen.

About this task

This procedure saves internal diagnostic information to the first available SD card installed in the SM5.

Note: If you do not have an SD card available, or the SM5 is for some reason unable to write data to its SD card, you can instead use the Song Meter Configurator app to email diagnostics directly to Wildlife Acoustics Support.

Procedure

  1. Contact Wildlife Acoustics Support to describe any issues you are experiencing with the SM5.
A diagnostics file may not be necessary to resolve or diagnose the issue. If a diagnostics file is needed, the context of your description helps us interpret the file.
  2. Install an SD card into either of the SM5's card slots.
The SM5 will save the diagnostics file to SD card 1 if possible. Otherwise, it will save it to SD card 2.
  3. Install new or freshly-charged batteries and turn on the sSM5.
Batteries that have been almost fully drained may fail during the diagnostics process.
  4. Select Utilities > Save diags to SD.

The SM5 should display the confirmation message Diags file saved to SD 1/2!

The diagnostics file will be saved to the SD card with the name RecorderName_YYYYMMDD_hhmmss.sm5diags.

If the SM5 displays Unable to create diagnostics file, try using a different SD card, using the other SD card slot, or reformatting the SD card first.
