The SM5 can synchronize its coordinates and clock to GPS/GLONASS once when powered on, once per day, or continuously.
GPS Sync Frequency sets the behavior of the SM5's built-in GPS/GLONASS antenna. When the SM5 syncs to satellites, it updates its date, time, and location settings.
Options
- Off
- The SM5 never attempts to sync with satellites.
- Once (Default)
- The SM5 attempts to sync with satellites once after you save this setting, and once whenever the recorder is powered on.
- Daily
- The SM5 attempts to sync with satellites when the recorder is powered on. Then, if the recorder is awake during its recording schedule, and it has been longer than 24 hours since the last attempted sync, it will attempt to sync again.
- Continuous
- While the SM5 is awake, it attempts to maintain sync with satellites. While synced, the SM5 keeps its internal clock accurate to within 1 ms of satellite time, and it writes location data to its summary file once every 10 seconds.
GPS Sync Time-out
The SM5 can only sync to satellites if it has a relatively clear line of sight to multiple GPS or GLONASS satellites. The fewer satellites whose signal it can receive or the weaker those signals are, the longer it will take the SM5 to sync.
When GPS Sync Frequency is set to Once, the sync attempt will time out after 1 hour, or when the SM5 reaches a scheduled sleep period.
When GPS Sync Frequency is set to Daily, the sync attempt will time out after 10 minutes, or when the SM5 reaches a scheduled sleep period.
