Export and Import Schedule and Settings Using an SD Card and the Built-In Interface - SM5

Song Meter SM5 User Guide

Core Product
SM5
Accessory

You can export the settings and schedule from an SM5 to an SD card, then save the file for later use or import it into other recorders to quickly apply consistent settings to a full fleet.

About this task

Exporting and importing configurations using an SD card is one way of applying consistent configurations to multiple recorders in a single project, backing up configurations for later use, or sending the configurations to a colleague.

An exported configuration file records all of the recorder's settings and schedule, with the exception of the recorder's current date and time.

Procedure

  1. Program an SM5 with your desired settings and schedule using the built-in interface or the Song Meter Configurator app.
  2. Insert an SD card into either card slot.
  3. Go to Utilities > Save config to SD and select Card 1 or 2.
The recorder will save its settings and schedule to the root level of the SD card with the name RecorderName_YYYYMMDDhhmmss.sm5config.
  4. Eject the SD card.
  5. Optional: You may copy the file to a computer, move it into a folder on the SD card, or rename it.
The file name must end in .sm5config.
  6. Insert the SD card into either slot on a different SM5.
  7. Go to Utilities > Load config frm SD and select Card 1 or 2.
  8. Use the buttons to navigate the files on your SD card and select the .sm5config file to load it.
  9. Adjust any settings that you want to be different than what the configuration file included.
For example, if you want each recorder to have a unique recorder name and unique coordinates, you should update those settings on each recorder after loading the configuration file.
