Below are some examples showing how to set the Channel setting for several common microphone configurations.
Record Using the Acoustic Stub Microphones (Default)
The Song Meter SM5 ships with two stub microphones preinstalled on the left and right sides of the recorder. The default channel mapping uses these two microphones to record two channels of audio.
| Channel | Microphone |
|---|---|
| Acoustic Channel 1 | Left stub microphone |
| Acoustic Channel 2 | Right stub microphone |
Record Using One Stub Microphone and One External Microphone
One way to record audio from two points as part of a time-of-arrival localization setup is to use one of the stub microphones attached to the recorder, plus an external microphone connected via a long cable.
There are two possible configurations for this scenario, depending on which external microphone port you use:
| Channel | Microphone |
|---|---|
| Acoustic Channel 1 | Left stub microphone |
| Acoustic Channel 2 | External microphone 2 |
| Channel | Microphone |
|---|---|
| Acoustic Channel 1 | External microphone 1 |
| Acoustic Channel 2 | Right stub microphone |
Record Using Two External Microphones
To use two external microphones, simply map each external microphone port to a channel.
| Channel | Microphone |
|---|---|
| Acoustic Channel 1 | External microphone 1 |
| Acoustic Channel 2 | External microphone 2 |
