During recording, the SM5's display shows the message, Error: Dropping audio! Use faster SD card.

Cause: Slow SD Card

SD cards with very slow performance may be unable to write data fast enough to keep up with multiple channels of audio simultaneously.

Cards that match the following characteristics are more likely to encounter this issue:

  • SDHC cards (cards that are 32 GB or smaller)
  • Counterfeit cards, or cards not from major manufacturers
  • Cards with slower speed classes, especially slower than C10 or U1

Solution: Use a Faster SD Card

Procedure

  • Use an SDXC card, meaning a card between 64 GB and 2 TB in size.
  • Use a recent card from a major manufacturer, purchased from a reputable electronics retailer.
    We have found SanDisk cards to work most reliably. Kingston and PNY cards also work well.
    Counterfeit cards are sometimes sold on large online marketplaces that aggregate many sellers.
  • Use a card with a speed class of C10/U1 or faster.
    Any new SDXC card from SanDisk is almost certain to meet this requirement.
