The OLED screen on the SM5 does not turn on, despite the power being turned on.

Cause: SM5 Fell Asleep While Lid Was Open

The SM5 uses a magnetic sensor to detect when the lid goes from open to closed or from closed to open. The action of opening the lid normally signals the recorder to wake up and turn on its display.

If the SM5 is left open for an hour and begins a schedule sleep period, the recorder will not wake up to button presses until either the scheduled sleep period ends or until it detects the lid being opened from a closed state.

Solution: Close and Reopen the Lid

Procedure

  1. Close the front lid of the enclosure so that it contacts the rear compartment.
    It is not necessary to latch the enclosure shut.
  2. Reopen the front lid.
    The display should turn on and show the main status screen.

Solution: Turn the Power Off and On

Procedure

Turn the power switch off, then on again.
