Accessory

The Song Meter SM5 is a flagship bioacoustics recorder for audible-range sound. It provides the longest deployment life and most versatility of any Song Meter released to date.

The SM5 is designed for a wide variety of outdoor recording scenarios.

Like other Song Meter models, the SM5 is a bioacoustics recorder designed for long-term, unattended audio recording in outdoor environments. You can schedule the SM5 to record exactly when you need, whether that's at particular times on the clock or relative to sunrise and sunset. The SM5 can record two channels of audio, capturing the full frequency range of human hearing, on up to two microphones—either the stub microphones attached to the recorder or optional, cabled microphones like the Wildlife Acoustics SMM-A2. The SM5 records audio to its SD cards in formats that are compatible with audio analysis software from Wildlife Acoustics and other developers.

For the first time among Song Meter recorders, the SM5 can be powered using D batteries, 18650 lithium-ion batteries (in multiple quantities), or an external power source (such as the Wildlife Acoustics Solar Power Kit or a third-party battery).

The SM5 features a built-in GPS/GLONASS antenna that can be used to automatically set the recorder's clock and location, record location data for moving surveys, or synchronize multiple recorders for time-of-arrival localization

The SM5 can be fully configured either using the built-in buttons and display or by communicating over Bluetooth® with the free Song Meter Configurator app for Android and iOS devices.

The SM5 also features an expansion port for future accessories, including a cellular remote access accessory for remote status checking, configuration, and data retrieval.
