Ferrite beads installed along microphone and power cables inhibit the flow of ESD. They also prevent the Song Meter and its accessories from receiving or transmitting electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Ferrite beads are black or grey, plastic cylinders meant to be installed on microphone and power cables. A ferrite bead is shipped with each cable that Wildlife Acoustics sells individually, as part of a kit, or permanently installed on a microphone. They should be installed at the following locations in a well-protected setup:
- On the built-in cable of microphones like the SMM-U2
- On the microphone cable end closest to the microphone
- On the cable between the microphone and the Surge Suppressor, close to the Surge Suppressor
- On the microphone cable, close to where it plugs into the Song Meter
- On the external power cable, close to where it plugs into the Song Meter
