The SM2, SM3, and EM3 families of recorders can record compressed files ending in
.wac. You can convert these files to the more common
.wav format for greater compatibility with analysis
software.
We formerly published a standalone piece of software called wac2wav,
whose sole purpose was this type of file conversion. Now, you can use Kaleidoscope
Analysis Software to convert these files for free. You do not need a license of any
kind to perform file conversion in Kaleidoscope.

Download and install Kaleidoscope Analysis
Software.
You do not need to pay for a license or use a trial license for this
purpose.

Open Kaleidoscope and set the Input directory to a
folder containing WAC files you want to convert.

Under Inputs, select WAC
files.

Set the Output directory to an empty folder.

Under Outputs, select WAV (or W4V)
files, and set Compression to
None.

If you want to split stereo recordings into separate, single-channel files,
select Split channels.

Select Process Files.
