If the data port on your phone or tablet does not match the USB plug on your EMT module, you will need an adapter to use them together.

Adapting from Micro-USB module to USB-C port

If you need to connect a Micro-USB-equipped EMT 2 module with a USB-C-equipped phone or tablet, you will need an adapter with a Micro-USB socket and a USB-C plug, also referred to as “Micro-USB female, USB-C male.” The adapter's description needs to specify OTG compatibility.

At this time, we have found adapters that work from the following brands on the US Amazon store:

  • Arktek
  • Fanisy
  • Tronsmart
  • CnC Tech
  • Weduda
  • UGREEN

This list is not exhaustive; these are just adapters we have tried. Any adapter that is OTG compatible should work.

Adapting from USB-C module to Micro-USB port

If you need to connect a USB-C-equipped EMT 2 module with a Micro-USB-equipped phone or tablet, you will need an adapter with a USB-C socket and a Micro-USB plug, also referred to as “USB-C female, Micro-USB male.” The adapter needs to be explicitly labeled as supporting OTG.

So far, we have only found one such adapter on Amazon US, produced by Duttek. We have tested this adapter and confirmed that it works.

Adapting from Lightning module to USB-C port (iOS/iPadOS only)

iOS and iPadOS devices with a USB-C port (not a Lightning port) require a female Lightning to male USB-C adapter. We have tested several non-Apple branded adapters and none have worked. You must use the Apple-branded “USB-C to Lightning Adapter”.

USB-C and Micro-USB Modules are Incompatible with Lightning Devices

An EMT module with a Micro-USB or USB-C plug will not work with any iOS/iPadOS device with a Lightning port, even with the use of an adapter.

Apple requires any accessories for iOS devices with Lightning ports to undergo "Made for iPhone" (MFi) certification, but they do not issue this certificate to Micro-USB or USB-C accessories. Apple's current policies make it impossible to use USB-C-equipped EMT modules with Lightning-equipped iOS devices, even with an adapter that fits both connections.
